A1 Telekom Austria has launched direct carrier billing service in partnership with Fortumo to enable its subscribers to make payments of digital goods, inside games and with digital merchants by charging purchases to their mobile phone bill.

A1 Telekom Austria will be able to delegate merchant on-boarding, support and business operations activities to Fortumo. Fortumo in turn will be able to give its merchants seamless access to carrier billing.

By delivering a self-service platform, any merchant ranging from app stores and streaming services to indie developers can launch carrier billing on Fortumo’s platform.

Users do not have to fill out any forms or sign up for additional accounts which makes the checkout process quick and simple, while protecting customers from online identity theft as they do not need to share their personal data to make payments.

Additional data on carrier billing in Europe can be found from Fortumo’s recent market report. Fortumo’s direct carrier billing platform is used by leading digital companies including Google Play, Spotify, iflix, Sony, HOOQ, Gaana, Telly, Electronic Arts, Gameloft and Kinguin. To enable payments for these merchants, Fortumo works together with mobile operators in more than 100 countries.

Martin Koppel, CEO, Co-Founder of Fortumo
Telekom Austria Group is one of the strongest telecom groups in Central Europe and Fortumo is happy to help them achieve these goals, while enabling access to quality services for their subscribers and additional revenue for Fortumo merchants.
