At the TM Forum’s Digital Transformation Asia event which took place in November last year, The Fast Mode spoke to Angus Ward, Partner/CEO and Chris Stephenson, SVP Asia Pacific of Digital Platform Solutions, BearingPoint on the topic of platform-based business models.

Angus and Chris discussed about the need for Communication Service Providers (CSPs) to reposition themselves as platform providers when it comes to Digital Services especially in areas relating to 5G and the Internet of Things (IoT). As platform providers, CSPs will develop the ecosystems and the partnerships that bring together products, software and connectivity which will in turn enable CSPs to offer full-fledged services in these emerging segments. According to Angus and Chris, platform based business models are critical in enabling CSPs to take a bigger slice of the pie in emerging services such as IoT and 5G, where customers often prefer end-to-end offerings as compared to piece-meal solutions. This is driven mainly by the complexities and scale of the projects in the IoT and 5G space, where having compatible and readily integrated solutions greatly enhance their ease of deployment, maintenance and upgrade.

Apart from platform-based models, Angus and Chris also shared on digital services revenue opportunities and what drives innovations in digital services in the Asia Pacific market.
