Global VoLTE testing and monitoring market earned revenues of $524.6 million in 2014 and is estimated to reach $1499.6 million in 2021, according to a new analysis from Frost & Sullivan. With the increasing number of rollouts of commercial VoLTE networks globally, especially in North America and Asia Pacific, there is an increasing need for testing and monitoring solutions for this service on the back of challenges in its deployments including latency, interference and heterogeneity during call hand-overs.
According to Frost & Sullivan, the VoLTE testing and monitoring market will also get a boost from the deployment of small cells and self optimizing networks (SON) across LTE networks. In addition, the industry also gains from new test requirements arising from heavy power needs for VoLTE specific phones.
Frost & Sullivan said that VoLTE-specific testing and monitoring equipment is highly sophisticated and hence, comes with a high premium. The company however, said that take-up on these equipment may be delayed until full-scale and more widespread deployments of VoLTE start taking place.

The heterogeneous network infrastructure comprising 2G, 3G, 4G and VoLTE deployments will require end-to-end testing solutions that comprise both legacy-based and contemporary network monitoring systems. Entrenched participants usually acquire smaller participants that have a more differentiated approach to network monitoring. Apart from helping provide more comprehensive solutions, these acquisitions also help market participants lower the attrition rate.
