TM Forum's DTW24 - Ignite is now in full swing at Copenhagen's Bella Center, with over 4000 delegates from more than 650 companies attending the show. Hosted by telco alliance TM Forum, the show features AI-Native Telco as its core theme, exploring key emerging topics including autonomous networks and Generative AI. Ariana Lynn, Principal Analyst at The Fast Mode sat down with Andrew De La Torre, Group Vice President of Technology of Oracle Communications to explore these themes and discuss Oracle's participation at the show.

Ariana: Which of the five tracks - Implementing AI, Autonomous Networks, Growth Powerplays, AI-Native DNA, and Modernizing IT - will Oracle be participating in at DTW - Ignite?

Andrew: Oracle is part of Growth Powerplays. We are very excited to discuss how our new Enterprise Communications Platform (ECP) seamlessly connects Oracle industry applications with real-time communications to IoT devices to extend their value and enable organizations to reimagine how they do business.

Built on the high performance and security of Oracle Cloud Infrastructure (OCI), ECP delivers a powerful communications backbone and edge architecture that users can embed directly into their Oracle industry applications stack. With integrated capabilities such as IoT device management, customers can eliminate the burden of managing complex integrations and network contracts to deliver the connectivity and data intelligence they need to power critical new services. The growth potential this will enable for new revenue streams is endless. New use cases can range from a first responder leveraging a real-time immersive view of an active incident to a restaurant using tablets to take orders from anywhere, or a utility using IoT sensors to monitor the health of its transmission lines.

Through our broad portfolio of Communications Applications solutions, Oracle is also keen to demonstrate how we can provide the key IT capabilities to enable CSPs to be ready to embrace this new industrial applications ecosystem. From monetization, to orchestration, to service assurance, Oracle Communications can help CSPs experiment with new ways to monetize 5G, unlocking the concept of value-based offers that combine content, services, and applications with 5G speed through our integrated, agile, and scalable solutions.

Ariana: Will Oracle be taking the stage for any panel discussions at the show? What will they be covering?

Andrew: Oracle will participate in speaking sessions with our customers to offer guidance through case study analysis. Across three sessions we’ll explore Oracle implementations from leading telcos around the world covering these topics:

In one case study-based session, experts from Oracle Communications and KPN will explore why service providers need to consider cloud transformation. Diving into the challenges of modernizing applications, this session will aim to educate attendees about how to take the best approach to cloud migration. KPN will explain the benefits they’ve seen to their business by moving to the cloud, honing in on best practices for multicloud migration and application modernization.

Salam first came to Oracle seeking support in optimizing its operations and expediting the delivery of new 5G services. In this case study, experts from Oracle Communications and Salam walk through the challenges of digitally transforming business and customer operations from their first-hand experience. The session offers insights into driving customer experience outcomes in a highly competitive market and offers a candid look into how Salam was able to launch new business lines faster than they had before, using digital BSS.

In a third session, KDDI Digital Life and Oracle experts show how embracing openness and collaboration can be the key to unlocking new growth opportunities. Attendees can discover how open and platform-based approaches foster collaboration at scale. This session will offer insider knowledge of why an "Open Telco" approach is critical to future business success.

Additionally, Oracle will lead a session entitled “The ODA Canvas Evolution” to explore how TM Forum members use Open Digital Architecture (ODA) in action to drive everything from growth to implementing new ecosystems.

Ariana: What opportunities do you see for traditional telcos making the shift towards becoming TechCos? What are some of the challenges?

Andrew: A TM Forum survey found that 78% of CSPs consider flexibility and scalability as their most urgent BSS need. Telcos realize the road to becoming a Techco requires the ability to experiment with monetizing new services and user experiences beyond consumer mobile. To take advantage of the opportunities and potential revenue streams associated with 5G and future mobile generations, CSPs will focus on creating value for customers by incorporating new pricing levers unique to 5G: speed, latency, and quality of experience (QoE) and creating multiparty business models that enable cross-industry solutions.

Telco to Techco transformation is key to increase service agility and drive revenue growth. By leveraging technology in new ways, Techcos can seamlessly meet market opportunities where they are by providing relevant and increasingly personalized solutions to their customers. This means leveraging cloud and cloud native applications for everything ranging from the 5G core to analytics, to ordering, provisioning, and billing, and fully autonomous operations. These capabilities are not only going to be critical to efficiently operate and scale 5G for the new era real time communications enabled industrial solutions, but also to rapidly offer and monetize new 5G-enabled digital services for consumers and enterprises.

Andrew De La Torre, Group Vice President of Technology, Oracle Communications is responsible for making strategic decisions that increase the overall competitive position of Oracle Communications and defining direction for the best-in-class products and solutions that help customers compete in a rapidly evolving technology landscape. De La Torre also leads the technical sales, business development and acquisitions teams for the business unit.
