Dublin-born Ronan Dunne, formerly CEO of O2 UK, has been named executive vice president and group president of Verizon Wireless. Dunne will be assuming the role in September and will report to John Stratton, executive vice president and president of Operations.
Dunne was CEO of O2 UK for the past 8 years. O2 is the second largest wireless operator in the United Kingdom. Dunne is also a member of the Executive Committee of parent Telefonica. Dunne stepped down from O2 after a plan to sell the carrier to competitor CK Hutchison was blocked by European Union regulators.
While leading O2, he significantly improved its growth trajectory through market leadership in brand, customer satisfaction and loyalty, making it the most successful wireless operation in the UK and the most efficient within the Telefonica Group.
Ronan will be responsible for all aspects of Verizon Wireless' operations including marketing operations, wireless operations, network operations, customer care and digital operations.
John Stratton, EVP & President of Operations, Verizon
