MTN has partnered with instant EFT(electronic funds transfer) solution provider, Ozow to provide a fast and efficient payment method for customers to purchase data and airtime directly through WhatsApp.
This innovative partnership is an industry-first in South Africa that keeps it in tune with global developments, where payments over channels like WhatsApp are becoming increasingly popular. ]
The service is provided within the MTN Chat platform, which was launched in 2019 to enable customers to initiate the purchase of airtime and data bundles within their WhatsApp chat. MTN Chat continues to drive added value and convenience for its rapidly growing user base. Making actual payments via WhatsApp, however, is relatively new globally, having initially being tested in India in 2018 and officially launched in Brazil in June 2020.
