The MEF (Metro Ethernet Forum) recently announced that 55 providers worldwide have already received MEF CE 2.0 certification for their Carrier Ethernet services, including some of the major service providers that joined this year such as China Telecom, Spark New Zealand, Swisscom, TeliaSonera, TELUS and Vodafone New Zeland. The certification recorded an increase of 82% from 28 in the second quarter last year to 51 in the second quarter of this year.
The CE 2.0 specifications provide a standards-based way for operators to seamlessly interconnect with each other and deliver assured performance across local, regional, national, and international Ethernet networks
The MEF which has 220 member organizations is positioning itself as the driving force behind the over $80 billion global market for Carrier Ethernet services and technologies and the defining body for LSO (Lifecycle Service Orchestration) standards that underpin the emerging Third Network services with CE 2.0, SDN, and NFV.
Nan Chen, President of the MEF
CE 2.0 certified services form a critical foundation upon which to build more dynamic Third Network connectivity services enabled by emerging Lifecycle Service Orchestration (LSO), Software Defined Networking (SDN), and Network Functions Virtualization (NFV) technology solutions.
