Indonesian Mobile Operator XL Axiata continues to strive to increase network capacity by implementing the latest technology, 'Smart Massive MIMO', in collaboration with Huawei.
Through a series of trials, the application of this technology has succeeded in increasing the quality and capacity of the network by three times, said XL Axiata. In addition, this technology can also increase the efficiency of the spectrum on the network, thereby helping to reduce the operational burden of the network.
Technology Smart Massive MIMO is a technology that uses the concept of multiple-input and multiple-output radio that can increase network capacity and spectral efficiency. Smart Massive MIMO has the ability to improve network quality and capacity by utilizing massive antenna array techniques and feature beamforming . In addition, from a network operational perspective, this technology can increase the spectrum efficiency of the network, thereby helping to reduce network operational burdens.
Huawei's Smart Massive MIMO technology is implemented to answer problems in areas that have a large number of users with high data traffic consumption. By implementing this technology, XL Axiata will be able to maintain customer convenience in using data services even though they use digital platforms or applications that require large capacity, such as video conferencing, video streaming , webinars, and video calls .
By XL Axiata, the application of this technology will be carried out by focusing on areas with high traffic usage of data and internet services, such as in densely populated areas, offices, tourist attractions, to shopping centers. In addition, it is also very useful for maintaining the quality of service at transportation service centers such as airports, ports and terminals, or also at the venues for large events that have the potential for a traffic spike.
XL Axiata will also implement this Smart Massive MIMO technology on the 5G network. Besides being able to support 5G networks, this technology will also be able to increase network capacity by about six to nine times on 5G networks and also be efficient in the use of existing spectrum.
